Driving innovation in biodiversity research
In its first year of operation MBI secured funds alongside local and national partners, and advanced 12 biodiversity projects with real-world outcomes. With partners spanning government, business and finance, energy and sustainability organisations, research outcomes from the institute include assessing whether carbon and biodiversity markets support First Peoples caring for Country, rapid energy transitions and renewables infrastructure, to biodiversity frameworks for banks, business and finance, to bogong moth conservation, each project was designed with a larger vision of holistic biodiversity revitalisation.
Research Clusters
Research clusters emerged from cross-disciplinary conversations with stakeholders and partners, convening interdisciplinary expertise around locally and globally relevant challenges. The theme structure provides a means to coalesce our large and diverse interdisciplinary base of expertise across the University, empowering our people to lead and develop strategies, foster and coalesce partnerships, and identify research needs and opportunities, to address the most crucial issues for biodiversity.
Located across six different faculties, our research leads connect more than 150 researchers into our research clusters, to create interdisciplinary projects led by community and expert need.
How the clusters work
Clusters meet at scheduled times throughout the year, discussing research projects, grant and funding opportunities and potential interdisciplinary collaborations.
Register to a research cluster
If you are a current researcher at the University of Melbourne, you can register to join as many clusters as is relevant to your areas of expertise and interest.
