Vision and mission
We lead interdisciplinary collaboration to bring together researchers, communities, and partners to generate solutions that are innovative, culturally grounded, and socially transformative.
Our vision is of an interconnected world where biodiversity conservation is central to cultural identity, community resilience, human health, and sustainable prosperity, and where knowledge and action flow equitably across nations, people, and disciplines to secure flourishing ecosystems for generations to come.
Our mission is to harness and amplify the breadth and quality of biodiversity expertise across the University of Melbourne and beyond by convening diverse disciplines and perspectives, including First Nations knowledge and global research traditions, to address the complex and urgent biodiversity challenges of our time.

Strategic plan and reporting
The Melbourne Biodiversity's strategic plan has been developed within the broader strategic framework of the University of Melbourne’s guiding strategy; Advancing Melbourne 2030, and aligns with the goals presented in the Faculty of Science’s Strategic Plan 2024-2025.
This plan has been developed in consultation with the Institute’s Directors, the Chancellery (research), the Institute’s cross-faculty working group, the Institute’s Advisory Board, a broad suite of internal and external stakeholders and collaborators, and the Institute’s Executive Committee.
